Meet Bathroom Designer, Lucy

We spoke with Lucy from our Bristol bathroom showroom about her approach to design, the bathroom trends she’s loving at the moment and how she helps customers create bathrooms that feel both practical and personal.

How long have you been with Gardiner Haskins Interiors?

I’ve been with Gardiner Haskins Interiors for just over a year now,  around 15 months. During that time, I’ve worked on a wide range of bathroom projects, from smaller updates through to larger, more complete renovations. I really enjoy helping customers bring their ideas together and creating spaces that feel both practical and personal. It’s also been lovely to receive so many positive comments from customers along the way.

What was your background before becoming a bathroom designer?

I have spent collectively a decade in the interiors industry, working as an Interior Designer and Project Manager - designing and installing show homes and private homes, a Stone Consultant offering advice when purchasing stone and porcelain for interiors and also a Lighting Design Engineer, putting together lighting schemes to illuminate commercial spaces.

Favourite bathroom project so far?

Below is a rendered image of one of my favourite bathroom designs I have produced - Bathrooms are often the first and last spaces we experience each day, making it important that they feel both inviting and calming this was the brief for this customer. This design was created to evoke a sense of tranquillity, with a spa-like atmosphere that feels timeless, restorative, and serene. Through a soft and considered material palette, the space encourages relaxation and quiet reflection, transforming everyday routines into moments of calm.

Bathrooms have the ability to feel truly bespoke, combining practicality with individuality in a way that transforms them into carefully curated spaces. I particularly love the use of fitted furniture, which allows plumbing to be seamlessly concealed while also providing clever storage solutions. Thoughtful design choices mean bathrooms can be completely tailored to both functional requirements and personal wants, creating spaces that feel refined, organised, and uniquely personal.

What can customers expect when they visit you in the showroom?

As a bathroom designer, I am passionate about creating thoughtful, beautifully considered spaces and take great pride in every project I undertake. I believe exceptional design comes from understanding each client’s lifestyle, needs, and vision, which is why I carefully manage every stage of the process with attention to detail. From the initial consultation and site measurements through to the final installation, I am committed to delivering a seamless experience and the highest standard of design possible.

When presenting designs to my customers, I always aim to create a relaxed and welcoming experience. We sit down together over a coffee and take the time to carefully go through every aspect of the design, discussing layouts, finishes, materials and finer details to ensure the space feels completely personal and considered. I believe these collaborative moments are an important part of the process, helping clients feel confident, excited, and fully involved in bringing their vision to life.

FAQ

What does a bathroom designer help with during a renovation?

A bathroom designer helps bring together layouts, storage, materials, lighting and practical considerations into a more cohesive overall plan. Beyond selecting products, the process often involves understanding how the space is used day to day and shaping the design around both functional needs and the overall atmosphere of the room.

Why is personalised bathroom design important?

Bathrooms are highly personal spaces that need to support individual routines, comfort and storage requirements. A more tailored design approach often helps create bathrooms that feel calmer, easier to use and better connected to the wider character of the home rather than purely trend-led.

Can fitted bathroom furniture improve storage and organisation?

Yes. Fitted bathroom furniture can help maximise usable storage while concealing pipework and reducing visual clutter throughout the room. This approach often creates a more streamlined and balanced feel, particularly in bathrooms where practicality and organisation are important considerations.

What makes a bathroom feel calm and spa-like?

Carefully layered lighting, softer material palettes, thoughtful layouts and balanced textures all contribute to creating a calmer bathroom environment. Walk-in showers, integrated storage and understated finishes can also help support a more relaxing atmosphere while maintaining practical day-to-day functionality.

Do your bathroom designers help manage projects from start to finish?

Yes. The design process includes everything from initial consultation and site measurements through to design planning and installation coordination. Managing projects in a more joined-up way often helps create a smoother overall experience while ensuring the finished bathroom feels cohesive and thoughtfully resolved.

What can customers expect during a bathroom design consultation?

Bathroom consultations are intended to feel collaborative, relaxed and informative. Discussions typically explore layouts, finishes, practical requirements and design ideas in detail, helping customers better understand how the space could work within their home and everyday routines.

Why is seeing bathroom materials and layouts in person helpful?

Experiencing cabinetry, tiles, brassware and layouts in person often gives a much clearer understanding of scale, texture and practicality than images alone. Visiting the Bristol showroom allows customers to compare finishes more naturally while discussing ideas directly with experienced bathroom designers.
