Luxurious, Sustainable Living with Harrison Spinks
More than ever, customers are thinking carefully about the sustainability and environmental impact of the products they bring into their homes. When it comes to mattresses, durability, natural materials and responsible manufacturing are becoming increasingly important.
One brand leading the way in sustainable mattress design is Harrison Spinks. Known for combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative manufacturing techniques, Harrison Spinks has developed a production process that places sustainability at its core.
At our Bristol showroom, we’re proud to showcase Harrison Spinks mattresses — offering customers the chance to experience this thoughtful approach to comfort and sustainability first-hand.
Natural Materials Grown on Their Own Farm
One of the most remarkable things about Harrison Spinks is how much of the production process happens in-house.
The company operates its own 300-acre farm in Yorkshire, where they grow natural materials such as hemp and flax used in their mattresses. These materials help regulate temperature, wick away moisture and improve overall comfort.
They also keep sheep on the farm, providing high-quality wool that is used as a natural filling. Wool is naturally breathable, helps regulate body temperature and is also naturally fire-resistant.
Using their own farm allows Harrison Spinks to maintain strict control over quality while significantly reducing transportation and environmental impact.
Manufacturing Close to Home
More than 90% of the components used in Harrison Spinks mattresses are manufactured in or near their Leeds factory.
The company even produces its own steel wire and manufactures the pocket springs used inside their mattresses. This vertical integration means fewer supply chains, reduced transport emissions and better oversight of materials and production.
It’s a rare level of control in mattress manufacturing — and one that contributes significantly to their sustainability credentials.
Designed to Be Fully Recyclable
Another important factor in Harrison Spinks’ approach is their commitment to reducing landfill waste.
During production, no glue is used, allowing the different components of the mattress to be separated at the end of its life. As a result, Harrison Spinks mattresses are 100% recyclable.
The brand also avoids using foam in its mattresses, relying instead on natural fillings. Even the mattress fabric — known as the ticking — is woven in-house using materials that are naturally fire retardant, removing the need for chemical fire treatments.
Award-Winning Sustainability
Harrison Spinks’ environmental efforts have not gone unnoticed.
The company has received the prestigious Queen's Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development twice, first in 2013 and again in 2019. This recognition highlights their ongoing commitment to improving environmental performance across every part of their business.
They are also among the first UK bed manufacturers to achieve Carbon Neutral+ status, covering the entire production process.
