Sleek, Stylish and Contemporary Gloss Kitchen
Alison and Darrell started visiting Gardiner Haskins 10 years ago, back when the business was a department store in Bristol city centre. Since then, we’ve reimagined the Bristol store and moved to the neighbouring building where we now sport beautiful bathroom and kitchen showrooms. Alison and Darrell had seen our kitchen displays which encouraged them to specifically choose Gardiner Haskins for their exciting new kitchen renovation.
Stepping foot into their seaside home, I firstly noticed the luxurious wood effect flooring in the hallway. It was smooth, attractive, and an absolute delight to walk on after removing my shoes. As I was chatting to Alison and Darrell, they told us that having the hallway flooring done wasn’t in their original plan and was actually suggested by our kitchen designer, Alec.
Initially, Alison and Darrell were only looking to have their kitchen and utility room revamped, which were connected via the hallway. Each room had tiled flooring whereas the hallway was wooden. Alec had his design head on and suggested they use the same flooring for all three areas to help the flow of the rooms, an idea the pair happily took onboard.
They were thrilled to find that this created more harmony within the entrance of the house and allowed the kitchen, utility room and hallway to flow effortlessly. Alec also proposed using Karndean for the flooring as it’s more modern, hardwearing and easier to clean. It was a no brainer and is visually impeccable.
Alison and Darrell highly praised Alec. They said he was extremely good at designing, had excellent product knowledge and really took the time to listen to their thoughts and ideas. As a result, they felt incredibly confident leaving the project management in his professional hands.
The original design idea was to have a shaker kitchen. However, after Alec showed them options with digital imagery, they opted for a more modern design which was better suited to the layout of the kitchen.
Viewing the newly renovated Mackintosh kitchen in all its glory, it boasts a sleek and contemporary style. A space that really gives the wow factor. Alison and Darrell opted for two tone, handle-less cabinetry, consisting of light grey and anthracite. A blissful combination of shades. The glossy, reflective finish is an impactful feature as it acts as a mirror for the LED lighting which runs along the bottom of the cabinets. This means the kitchen is swimming with light.
To add character to a room of neutral tones, Alison and Darrell have a cooker hood with LED backlighting that changes colour. An exciting bit of technology allowing them to choose their desired ambience. Below sits a polished induction hob featuring a magnetic dial which provides control over each cooking zone. During the kitchen refit, they opted for built-in appliances to maintain the kitchen's sleek aesthetic. The appliances are by Neff, a top-of-the-range brand our designers work with.
The kitchen has a few hidden gems, too. the cabinets pull out to reveal perfectly curved edges that align with the countertops. You may even notice the absence of a bin; this is because they are tucked away neatly inside one of the drawers. In addition, some of the drawers have smaller drawers concealed within them, creating a tidier and more structured outside appearance.
The utility room also has two tone, handle-less cabinetry in the same shades as the kitchen, creating coherence between the two rooms. Moreover, the use of LED lighting beneath the top cabinets bounces off the white wall and work surface below offering a nice glow.
Since having their kitchen renovated, they were so impressed with the result that they have come back to Gardiner Haskins Interiors to have two bathrooms renovated too!
Overall, the atmosphere created is very pleasant and inviting. Alison, Darrell and Alec have made the kitchen environment a charming space to cook, eat and spend time in. It’s light, modern, on trend and will be flattering for years to come.
