Christmas Cookie Recipe
Few things feel more festive than the smell of freshly baked cookies filling the house. Whether you’re baking with family, preparing homemade gifts or simply enjoying a cosy evening at home, these simple Christmas cookies are a perfect seasonal treat.
They’re easy to make, fun to decorate and can be customised with your favourite toppings or flavours.
Ingredients
100g caster sugar
100g unsalted butter (room temperature)
1 lightly beaten egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
275g plain flour (plus extra for dusting)
To Decorate
400g icing sugar
Water
Sprinkles, coloured icing or festive decorations of your choice
One of the best things about this recipe is how adaptable it is. You can add chocolate chips to the dough, flavour the icing, or keep the biscuits plain if you prefer a simpler finish.
Method
Preheat the oven to 190°C / 170°C fan / Gas Mark 5 and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.
Cream the butter and caster sugar together until the mixture becomes pale and fluffy.
Gradually beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
Stir in the flour until the mixture forms a soft dough.
Lightly flour your work surface and roll the dough to around 1cm thickness.
Use biscuit cutters to create your chosen shapes – stars and festive designs work especially well.
Place the biscuits on the prepared baking tray and bake for 8–10 minutes, until lightly golden.
Allow the cookies to cool completely before decorating.
Decorating Your Cookies
Mix the icing sugar with a small amount of water, adding it gradually until you reach a thick but spreadable consistency.
Using a spoon or piping bag, spread the icing over each biscuit and decorate with sprinkles, coloured icing or edible decorations.
Once the icing has set, your cookies are ready to enjoy.
These cookies are perfect for sharing with friends and family, gifting during the festive season, or simply enjoying with a warm drink on a cosy winter evening.
