Bristol Bakes Baking Competition 2019
On 15th June 2019, we hosted a special Bristol Bakes event at our Bristol kitchen showroom, bringing together local baking talent for a fantastic cause.
The event supported The Grand Appeal — the charity for Bristol Children's Hospital — and celebrated everything we love about baking.
We were delighted to welcome Bristol-born baker and The Great British Bake Off semi-finalist Briony Williams as our special guest judge for the day.
Incredible Cakes from Bristol’s Bakers
Talented local bakers entered a wonderful variety of cakes, each beautifully presented and full of creativity.
Entries ranged from a spectacular summer-themed cake decorated with delicate flowers to a traditional Russian-inspired bake featuring intricate Russian doll decoration. The standard was incredibly high, making the judging particularly difficult.
In fact, the decision proved so tough that Briony crowned two winners, both with cakes inspired by Wallace & Gromit and The Grand Appeal. The winners received baking prizes and the bragging rights of being named Bristol’s best bakers!
A Live Baking Demonstration
As well as judging the competition, Briony treated visitors to a live baking demonstration, showing how to create a delicious chocolate, orange and basil tart.
The demo proved a real highlight of the day, with plenty of baking tips, great conversation and even a little help from Briony’s assistant Nora.
Supporting a Brilliant Bristol Charity
After the judging, all the cakes were sold as part of a charity bake sale, alongside a raffle prize offering the chance to win a baking masterclass with Briony.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved — the bakers, visitors and supporters — the event raised over £250 for The Grand Appeal.
The funds contributed to Gardiner Haskins Interiors’ fundraising total for the Play 4 All Business Challenge 2019, helping support life-saving work for children and families across the region.
It was a wonderful day celebrating baking, community and charity — and we’d like to thank everyone who helped make Bristol Bakes such a success.
