Best and Worst Breakfasts to eat in Bed
There are days when all you want to do is stay in bed and binge-watch series after series on Netflix. Naturally, this often leads to eating in bed too. Breakfast in bed sounds romantic and indulgent… until one slipped pillow or unbalanced plate results in food decorating your sheets.
Suddenly, your cosy day has turned into a cycle of washing, drying and remaking the bed.
To help preserve both your duvet and your mood, here’s our guide to which breakfasts you should, and definitely shouldn’t, eat in bed.
Worst breakfasts to eat in bed
Boiled eggs and soldiers
As lovely as dunking toast into a perfectly boiled egg sounds, it’s a risky move. Eggshell fragments, runny yolk and toast crumbs combine into a bedding disaster waiting to happen. Best enjoyed at a table.
Pancakes with syrup
Sticky syrup and bedding simply don’t mix. One drip down your chin and suddenly your pillowcase is involved. Trust us, syrup in bed is never worth it.
Toast
Possibly the worst offender of them all. Even with a plate, toast crumbs will find their way everywhere. Once they’re in your sheets, they’re there to stay.
Full English breakfast
A full English is a breakfast champion, just not in bed. Between cutting bacon, chasing sausages and avoiding runaway beans, something will end up on the duvet.
Pastries
Croissants and pastries may look innocent, but they shed flakes like glitter. Add a little butter or jam and you’ve got a recipe for a duvet change rather than a nap.
Acceptable breakfasts to eat in bed
Cereal
Yes, it involves milk, but a deep bowl reduces the risk significantly. Just keep it steady and avoid overfilling.
Porridge
Warm, comforting and low-risk when eaten from a bowl. One of the safest options for a duvet-friendly breakfast.
Fruit
Bananas, apples and berries in a bowl are usually safe choices. Minimal crumbs, minimal mess — and anything dropped is often a quick fix.
Crumpets
Soft, squishy and far less crumbly than toast. Just go easy on the toppings — too much butter can still turn into a slippery situation.
Breakfast in bed can be a joy as long as you choose wisely. Stick to low-crumb, low-drip options and you’ll keep your lazy day exactly that: lazy.
