BBQ Food Ideas and BBQ Party Ideas

In true British fashion, the moment we see a hint of sunshine we start planning our next BBQ.

Suddenly it’s all about long evenings in the garden, friends gathered around the table, the smell of food on the grill and a cold drink in hand. And while burgers and a pack of sausages will always have their place, a few extra touches can turn a simple barbecue into a proper summer party.

If you’re looking for easy BBQ food ideas, refreshing cocktails and a few fun ways to entertain your guests, we’ve pulled together some of our favourites to help you host in style.

BBQ Food Ideas Everyone Will Love

Sticky Honey & Soy Chicken Wings or Breasts

A proper finger-licking classic that’s quick to prepare and packed with flavour.

You’ll need:

  • 1 part soy sauce

  • 4 parts balsamic vinegar

  • 3 parts honey

  • 1 crushed garlic clove

  • Chilli flakes (optional)

Marinate your chicken for a few hours (or overnight if you can) then cook on the BBQ until beautifully sticky and caramelised. Serve with napkins… trust us, you’ll need them.

Garlic Butter & Parsley Corn on the Cob

Simple, comforting and always a crowd pleaser.

Method:

  • Mix 100g softened butter with crushed garlic and chopped parsley

  • Coat each cob generously

  • Wrap individually in foil

  • Cook on the BBQ for 30–35 minutes until tender

Messy? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.

Sweet & Sour Glazed Hot Dogs

A twist on the traditional hot dog that feels just a bit more special.

Glaze:

  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

  • 3 tbsp ketchup

  • 2 tbsp golden caster sugar

Brush the glaze over sausages as they cook, turning regularly for a sticky finish. Serve in brioche buns with spring onions or crispy onions for extra crunch.

A Refreshing Summer Cocktail

Watermelon Champagne Spritz (serves 4)

Light, fresh and perfect for warm evenings.

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups blended watermelon (strained and chilled)

  • ¼ cup vanilla vodka (or normal vodka with a drop of vanilla)

  • ⅛ cup triple sec

  • 1.5 oz lime juice

  • Champagne or prosecco to top

Mix everything except the fizz, pour into glasses and top with champagne. Garnish with mint or a small wedge of watermelon for a finishing touch.

BBQ Party Ideas to Set the Scene

Great food is only half the story. Creating the right atmosphere makes all the difference.

Choose a Theme

A simple theme can instantly elevate your garden party. Try:

  • Hawaiian Luau

  • Mediterranean evening

  • Beach-style hangout

  • Rustic country picnic

Add a few decorations, music and lighting and you’ve transformed the space.

Garden Lighting

As the sun goes down, soft lighting keeps things cosy. String lights, lanterns or candles create a relaxed, welcoming feel and help guests linger longer.

Easy Garden Games

A little friendly competition never hurts:

  • Musical chairs (still hilarious as adults)

  • Two truths and a lie

  • Garden quiz or mini team games

  • Giant Jenga or garden skittles

Make the Most of Your Outdoor Space

Summer entertaining is all about comfort and flow - plenty of seating, space to serve food and somewhere everyone can gather.

If you’re hosting more often this year, it might be the perfect time to rethink how your kitchen or dining space connects with the garden. Open layouts, islands and easy access outdoors make entertaining effortless.

Here’s to sunshine, good food and long evenings with friends.

If you’re planning a home update to make summer hosting even easier, our team is always happy to help with kitchen and dining space design inspiration.
